I kinda want one of these. Does that make me a big geek?
Apparently, Topps is planning on releasing Garbage Pail Kids again. If they actually become popular again, I imagine that the old cards are going to become quite valuable. Too bad I really have no idea where mine are…
I’ll be away for the next week. Ali and I are going to the shore with her family. I’m not really all that thrilled about it. The shore isn’t my “thing”.
Last year I used dial-up while I was down there. This year I won’t have that luxury. My free trial period of MSN is up, and damned if I’m going to subject myself to AOL. So, don’t go having any fun while I’m away. I’ll know if you do. I’ve got a network of people watching you…
A good thing happened today, and a bad thing happened today.
The good thing is that I got a call saying that we’re going to go ahead with the contract for installation of a background music system at Chauncey Conference Center (on the campus of ETS in Princeton). Not only will this bring in good money (the profit from it should be about a quarter of what my new salary at Princeton Day School will be for the entire year), but it gets my foot in the door for what I really want out of them, which is a contract to be their in-house AV vendor. That’ll take some work, but I’m hoping….
Then, at dinner, the composite tooth that my dentist built up around the post that he put in on Tuesday (hoping to not have to put in a crown because it’s expensive) fell out. I’m not sure if the post is still in or not. If it’s not, then I think I probably swallowed it.
Now, normally I never would have posted this, because I absolutely hate the Beetle. But this one particular line really amused me:
The “people’s car” that was first commissioned by Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and went on to become a symbol of the hippie revolution will almost certainly be put to rest for good by the end of the month, according to the company.
It figures. Only Hitler could create such a moronic car that would become such a huge sensation. Why not just say that the devil, himself, created it? That would also fit.
I thought I’d provide a public service to all of you and let you know about the Clock Radio on TMBG.com. Spike was kind enough to point it out to me. It’s got a few channels that play both released stuff as well as a lot of rare, unreleased stuff. It’s really cool. And it’s free. And high quality. Go, John and John. I love those guys.
Snoop Dog is currently working on a remake of Airplane! titled Soul Plane. When asked how it will differ from the original, Snoop replied, “There’ll be more niggas.”
You’ve gotta admire the man’s honesty.
Well, I had a short run, and now I’m out of the newspaper business. I just couldn’t do it. It was a good idea, and I gave it a shot, but it wasn’t for me. The problem was not the work. I actually sort of enjoyed it. It was quiet, there was no one around, and it wasn’t that tough. The problem, and I’m sure many of you won’t be surprised by this, was that I had to wake up at 4 am. Now, that’s not really a problem every once in a while. It doesn’t bother me too much. The problem was that I realized I’d have to do it 7 days a week, 365 days per year, without exception. I can’t do that. First of all, I’m a night person. Talk all you want about getting used to things or whatnot, there are definitely just certain people out there who are night people and certain people who are morning people. I’m a night person. So, given that, I have a hard time falling asleep before midnight. If I go to sleep at midnight and have to wake up at 4 am every day, it causes a problem, assuming I even manage to fall asleep at midnight, which the past few days has been more like 1 or 2 am (and not for lack of trying. Monday night I actually tried to go to bed at 10 and didn’t fall asleep until 2). Okay, so, most days I can come home after delivering, at 6:30 am, and go back to sleep for a few hours. But that’s starting to screw me up. Sleeping for a few hours, getting up for a few hours, then sleeping for a few hours again is no way to live. And going to sleep earlier? Well, think about it…in order to get 8 hours of sleep, I’d have to go to sleep at 8 pm. So, best case scenario is that I could train myself to go to sleep at 10…that’s still only 6 hours of sleep a night. Normally, not a problem, but SOMETIMES I need more, and this is a 7 day a week, 365 day per year comittment.
But the biggest problem of all is that with my schedule, I never know when I’ll need to be up late or have to wake up early the next morning to be somewhere. Take Thursday, for instance. I have to leave my house at 7 am so that I can drive an hour north to begin getting ready for a technical rehearsal. That rehearsal starts at noon, and probably isn’t over until at least 6, if not later. Then I have to drive an hour home. If I have to get up at 4 am for this….well, you begin to see the problems. Right now it’s not as much of an issue because it’s the summer and I don’t have a lot of work planned, but…well, it’s just not for me, so I might as well get out early.
Okay, so, that failed. Or I failed. Whatever. I’ll figure something else out…
