Just in time for the Fourth of July, I bring you this little pearl from The Simpsons:

“Any red-blooded, flag-fearing American would love the M-320. Celebrate the independence of your nation by blowing up a small part of it.”

I apologize for not learning, yet, how to upload pictures onto this weblog, but click on this link…it’s worth it…

The Ninth Hour

…a room-size work depicting a realistic, life-size wax effigy of Pope John Paul II in white robes, felled by a meteorite that has crashed through the ceiling.

Well, kids, this is it. My last day of work. My last day as someone else’s employee. It’s a big step. I’m damn excited. I’m also scared out of my mind. But I think I’m ready for it. I think I’ve been ready for it for a long time, I just needed that final push. Thank you to Ali, the best wife a guy could have, for giving me the chance to do this.

Just 6 1/2 more hours…

I am toying with the idea of applying to be on the next Survivor. What do you think?

The Color of Success: Wearing different colors may help you move up

When I was in college, I wanted to be a Communications/Theatre Arts double major. It would have required more classes than I could have scheduled, though, so I dropped it to a Communications minor, and, due to some stupid rules on the part of Rutgers College, I ended up having to drop that, as well. As a result, I was basically one class away from my Communications minor. When I was studying, my fascination was always with non-verbal communication, and I think had I stuck with it, that would have been my specialization. So I find things like this fascinating, because people so rarely think about how things like color and movement and the way you carry yourself affects people’s impressions and, essentially, communicates with other people.

As is typical at my (soon to be non-existant) job, I’m sitting around right now doing nothing. So, I decide to go to MSN.com and play some games. I go to play Bejeweled, and see that 11,300 other people are currently playing this game. 11,300 other people out there are either like me and have nothing to do, or are simply not doing their jobs. Wow.

And we’re back…

How’s it look? Harlan was kind enough to provide me with a new site. I need opinions, since I never have any of my own. :) There seems to be some controversy over the opening of the second window? Do you like it?

Also, JoshVoices appears to be back. Yay, Josh!

Harlan tries to justify the ridiculous amount of hours he works.

Back in school, I used to have problems with mathematics. Now I have trouble typing the word correctly on the first try. Do you think these things are related?

Cell phone users: Know when to shut up

Ugh. It’s all spelled out very clearly in this article for anyone who cares to look. First:

“The Advocates for Cell Phone Safety group wants to see drivers prohibited from using any wireless electronic devices, even hands-free ones, said Patricia Pena.”

But then…

“Patricia Pena, who founded the grass-roots organization after her 2-1/2-year-old daughter was killed in a cellphone-related car accident in November 1999.”

So, of course she’s going to think that ALL cell phone usage should be banned. But what about someone whose 2 1/2 year old daughter was killed by someone who was talking to someone sitting next to them or who was changing a radio station? I feel for this woman’s loss, but just because it happened to her, does not make it an evil that needs to be banned the whole world over. See, they are ignoring this….

“Jane Stutts of the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center presented data showing only 1.5 percent of crashes caused by driver distraction involved cellphones”

People need to look at the facts before they jump to conclusions.
